Residents look
forward to visits from family and friends. We operate an open visiting
policy and actively encourage and welcome visitors. However to protect
our residents we ask that all visitors sign in and out on entering and
leaving; wait in the designated visitors' area to enable staff to announce
their arrival and observe any precautionary infection control measures
as appropriate. Kiltipper Woods reserves the right to impose restrictions
on visiting arrangements where the visit or time of visit is deemed to
pose a risk or where the resident requests such restrictions. Please note
that some residents like to enjoy their meal times in private, and therefore
we would advise that visitors do not visit during meal times unless with
the prior consultation with the Nurse Manager or the Nurse on Duty. To
avoid spread of infection, visitors are asked not to visit if they are
suffering from colds, flu or any other infection. Children are welcome
but must be under the strict supervision of a responsible adult. Parents
of very young children should check with the Nurse Manager before bringing
them to visit.
Kiltipper Woods recognises the importance of diet
to aid recovery, especially for those who are frail. Extensive menu choices
are available daily. Meal service includes three main meals daily, served
in attractive dining rooms. Refreshments and snacks are offered throughout
the day to all Residents. We are also happy to serve meals at a time that
suits the individual resident. Daily Menus are displayed close to the

physiotherapy department and hydrotherapy pool. All hydrotherapy and exercise
programmes are conducted by highly skilled chartered physiotherapists
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy entails whole body
exercises that take place in the warm water pool. The warm temperature
of the water allows your muscles to relax and eases the pain and stiffness,
making it easier to exercise. Hydrotherapy can relieve painful joints,
increase the range of movement in your joints and improve your muscle
strength. At Kiltipper Woods Care Centre our hydrotherapy pool contains
an underwater treadmill, resistance jets and massage wand. The Power Resistance
jets provide resistance for a range of motion exercises, improving the
patients cardiovascular stamina. The Wand offers patients the ability
to massage and loosen muscles. The pool is easily accessible to suit all
patients and can be accessed by patients in wheelchairs. All our hydrotherapy
sessions are conducted by chartered physiotherapists who are highly trained
and experienced in hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy sessions can take place
in a group setting or on a one to one basis.
A progressive ethos in Day Care
is provided where clients can attend on a daily basis; receive continued
care in terms of Nursing Care, Personal Hygiene and Physiotherapy. Fall
prevention and safety in the home advice is offered. Wound Care Management,
Health Promotion, General Health Advice and Nutritional Management is
also offered. Day trips, shopping trips, exercise/ activities, arts and
crafts and a wide range of activities and therapies are provided as part
of a holistic programme.
To assist in
the network of support for both patients and their families, the centre
offers respite care on a weekly, bi-weekly or weekend basis, relieving
pressure and stress on families and carers. It is a secure and comfortable
environment where patients can receive appropriate care at their level
of need all services provided by the centre will be offered to respite
patients.
Long Term Care
for the older person is provided, where despite care interventions from
hospital, community and family care needs can no longer be provided for
at home for social, nursing or medical reasons. We understand that making
the decision to move into residential care is often one of the most important
decisions that families may have to make. We endeavour to do everything
we can to support you in making this decision. We are happy to meet with
you and take the time to discuss and listen to your concerns and needs.
We will provide you with the relevant information to help you make the
right decision. In order to ensure you receive our uninterrupted attention,
it is best to schedule and appointment. We place a major emphasis on rehabilitative
nursing. All residents' needs are assessed and a comprehensive treatment
program including physiotherapy and an activity program is developed with
the resident according to their wishes and needs. The treatment programme
helps to assist residents in regaining and maintaining confi dence in
the skills necessary to reach the highest independent functioning level
possible and also assists in maintaining the general well being of the
person.
High Dependency Nursing Care is provided meeting in particular
the needs of people with signifi cant medical and physical conditions.
Our aim is to maintain as high a level of function, independence and dignity
for as long as possible. Our highly skilled nursing team provide specialised
care that meets the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of highly
dependent residents.
Residents with
Dementia and related conditions are cared for in a safe and protected
environment. Residents have access to a beautiful secure landscaped courtyard
with paved walkway. Staff are specially trained in the care of those with
memory impairment and behaviour associated with this condition. Residents
can engage in activities to meet their needs, interest and attention span.
Activities are physically, creatively, musically, spiritually and socially
stimulating. These success orientated activities focus on what the resident
can still do, rather than what they can't, so that he or she can live
with respect and dignity. We work to fi nd easier ways for the resident
to stay involved in daily life by unlocking
their remaining cognitive and functional abilities and promoting their
use. Understanding that Dementia affects the entire family, we include
family members in the care giving team.
| Younger Person with a Disability |
A Resident Committee
Nursing and Rehabilitation Care for the Younger Person with a disability
is provided at a level appropriate to each individual's needs. Care Plans
are carefully tailored to meet their many special needs. We recognise
that the needs of the younger person with a disability or those with an
acquired brain injury are signifi cantly different from those of the older
person. Our services are dedicated to providing the required support for
people to maintain their maximum independence through further rehabilitation.
High dependency care is also provided for those with signifi cant disability.
We also provide a specialist programme of activity appropriate to the
younger person, with choice & opportunity to engage in new or already
established interests and hobbies .
Our highly skilled nursing team
provide specialised care that meets the physical, emotional and spiritual
needs of patients and loved ones facing the challenges of an advanced
illness. The quality of life for those we serve is enhanced by encouraging
personal choices, supporting meaningful experiences and preserving dignity.
We are committed to providing comfort for the mind, body and spirit. Our
specially trained staff help manage pain and symptoms, thereby enabling
patients to live their lives as fully as possible. We incorporate different
methods of pain management, including the use of medications, and non-medication
procedures such as massages, physiotherapy, music and aromatherapy and
hydrotherapy. We respect the patient's autonomy and choice (eg. over place
of care/treatment options). Our emphasis is on open & sensitive communication.
Our Pastoral Care Service provides
spiritual, emotional and pastoral support to the resident or patient,
their families and friends. They give support to those who are sometimes
faced with life limitations and challenges. They are volunteers, and work
as part of our team making themselves available at any time. Should the
resident or patient prefer their minister or religious leader to attend,
we can arrange this. An oratory is provided for Mass, Prayer Services
and Confessions. Clergy from all denominations visit the centre weekly
or on request. Weekly mass and communion service is made available to
residents 3 times a week. A radio link to the local church for morning
mass is provided.
There is an
active independent resident committee established in Kiltipper
Woods. . Residents are very welcome to attend the regular monthly
meetings and are encouraged to voice their opinion, offer suggestions,
and share in the decisions making process.. We are interested in your
feedback to ensure that our service is continually reviewed and refi ned
in line with best practice and resident choice. There are a number of
ways in which you can share your views and participate in the consultation
process. We encourage the involvement of the resident's representative,
particularly those who through their illness or condition may be unable
to attend the meetings. The meetings help us to ensure that the needs
and expectations of all our residents are being met. We are committed
to ensuring the happiness and comforts of all Residents and Patients,
this is best achieved through your participation in your own care or your
relatives care, and therefore your feedback is very valuable to us to
ensure we continually review and refi ne our service to ensure we continue
