Situated on the banks of the river Deel, it lies about two miles upstream of the Shannon Estuary. It still retains many features of its history with many interesting buildings including the Knights Templar Tower built in 1298, Franciscan Friary 1389 and its famous bridge which dates back to the 15th Century.
